ABOUT US

Twin City Homeschool Co-op was founded in 2016 as a homeschool community, whose intention is to connect families from all backgrounds, faiths, cultures, and experiences. We like to think of ourselves as truly inclusive. We welcome all.

Who are we?

A group of families who meet throughout the school year for classes, activities, friendship, and community.

When and where do you meet?

Fridays, from 10 am to noon, for eight weeks per session (Fall, Winter, Spring). Our location is the William G. White, Jr. YMCA, located in the West End neighborhood in the heart of Winston-Salem.

Who participates in the co-op?

Registered students range from age 5 to 16 years old. Students are split into a "younger" and "older" student group for classes. Families come from a variety of backgrounds and belief systems. Most of the families live in Winston-Salem, but we have some from as far out as Mocksville, Lexington, King, and Greensboro.

What’s included in the cost of co-op?

The cost of each 8-week session includes a 1 hour art class and supplies and a 1 hour PE class. Fees cover teacher payment, art supplies, facility rental, federal & state taxes, and liability insurance for the group.

What responsibilities do the parents/caregivers have as part of the co-op?

There is a small volunteer requirement for each co-op family- simple tasks to help the co-op run smoothly- that are distributed evenly among the participating families.

Is this a drop-off co-op?

As long as you are not scheduled to volunteer, you may leave the Y campus during co-op. You must physically bring your students into the building, and pick them up inside the building.

If co-op teachers find that your child is really struggling in class and needs your presence, we'll ask that you stay in the building while classes are taking place- the director will speak with you should that need arise.

My child isn't 5 years old yet. Can we still participate?

Due to liability insurance limitations, we can't take participating students until they are 5 years old. Students' younger siblings are welcome to hang out during co-op, and if you are a Y member there is free YMCA child care during co-op hours.

What's the cost?

Cost for each 8-week session is $85.00. YMCA members receive a 10% discount, and/or siblings receive a 10% discount.

How do I sign up?
